Reach opens up on seven-month free agent ordeal

Adam Reach has opened up about the seven-month free agent ordeal he endured after leaving West Brom last summer. The Lincoln left-back, who has over 400 career appearances, found himself without a club despite expecting immediate interest after his contract expired in June 2024.

The 32-year-old admits he was "naïve" about how clubs now prefer younger players and those from overseas. Those months were mentally challenging as he trained alone while watching football rather than playing it. The lack of routine and purpose made the experience particularly difficult for someone who had played every season for 13-14 years.

Reach eventually signed short-term deals at Wycombe before joining Lincoln in September 2025. His performances have been exceptional, contributing four goals and three assists from left-back. Lincoln were so impressed they triggered a 12-month extension to his contract in January, securing his services for next season.

Lincoln are on a 14-game unbeaten run and currently sit second in League One, five points ahead of third-place Bolton with 16 games remaining. The club's push for promotion to the Championship would be historic, and Reach is determined to play his part in achieving that goal.
