Rangers have secured John Souttar on a new contract, keeping the Scotland defender at Ibrox until May 2027 with an option for an additional year. The 29-year-old was out of contract this summer but has committed his future to the Scottish Premiership leaders after joining from Hearts in 2022.

Souttar has made 127 appearances for Rangers since his arrival, becoming a key figure in the defense. The deal represents a significant boost for head coach Danny Röhl, who was keen to retain the experienced center-back amid uncertainty over several other defenders. With only three Rangers defenders previously guaranteed beyond this season, Souttar's extension provides much-needed stability.

Rangers captain James Tavernier remains out of contract in the summer, while loan players Max Aarons, Nasser Djiga, Jayden Meghoma, and Derek Cornelius will return to their parent clubs. Souttar's commitment signals the club's intent to build around core players as they pursue both domestic success and European competition. The defender, who has 21 caps for Scotland, will be targeting a spot in this summer's World Cup squad after helping qualify the national team.
