McInnes to Replace Röhl as Rangers’ New Manager

Derek McInnes has agreed a deal in principle to become the new Rangers boss. Final details are being ironed out but McInnes will leave Hearts, who he guided to a second‑place finish in the Scottish Premiership last season, and sign a three‑year deal at Ibrox.

McInnes will replace Danny Röhl, who has agreed a move to RB Salzburg. Rangers chairman Andrew Cavenagh and CEO Jim Gillespie snapped up the change while in Boston, watching Scotland face Haiti at the World Cup. The 54‑year‑old previously declined a Rangers role in 2017, missing the title by a single point.

Rangers have already begun a club‑led summer rebuild. Technical director Dan Purdy and consultant Stig Inge Bjornebye are adding depth, while Lawrence Shankland joined the club on a two‑year deal with an option for a third year. The forward, who scored 20 goals last season, moved for free after a clause in his Hearts contract activated.

With a new manager in place, Rangers aim to turn last season’s near miss into a title challenge. The appointment signals a fresh start for a club that has been held back by a single point in 2023‑24. McInnes’ experience and Hearts pedigree should give Rangers a renewed edge in the race.
