Rangers have named Derek McInnes as head coach, replacing Danny Röhl after his spell at Hearts that finished second in the Scottish Premiership. The 54‑year‑old guided Kilmarnock to the top flight and Aberdeen to European competition. Kris Boyd said the club finally has the right man to rebuild. McInnes' appointment follows a season where Rangers fell short of silverware, leadership.

Boyd praised McInnes' track record, noting his Aberdeen side consistently challenged Celtic and his Hearts squad finished just eight points behind Rangers. The former club boss highlighted the coach's confidence and operational sharpness, saying a manager must have rhino skin to withstand scrutiny in Ibrox. McInnes will inherit a squad in need of a summer overhaul for the coming season.

With Jim Gillespie as new CEO and technical director Dan Purdy on board, Rangers aim to add five or six players after signing Lawrence Shankland on a two‑year deal. Boyd warned that the club has only one league title since 2011 and one cup double, placing pressure on McInnes to deliver trophies immediately. The appointment signals a push for silverware.
