A consortium including Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is closing in on a deal to buy roughly a one-third stake in Liverpool, according to Sky News. The syndicate, led by Amit Bhatia, also includes Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin. The deal would value the club at £4.4bn ($6bn), making it one of football's richest-ever deals.

Fenway Sports Group, Liverpool's controlling shareholder since 2010, is preparing to announce the transaction as soon as this week. The stake is expected to be slightly larger than previously thought, potentially over 30%. The investment consortium led by Bhatia had expressed interest in a strategic minority investment.

Bezos, with a fortune over £207bn, and Saverin, worth over £23.7bn, would become co-owners of the Premier League club. Saverin previously attempted to buy Chelsea in 2022. The deal underscores sport's appeal as an asset class for wealthy investors. FSG declined to comment further on timing.
