The International Cricket Council and International Olympic Committee have locked in the qualification pathway for cricket's comeback at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, with Great Britain already securing its spot in the women's tournament. Both men's and women's T20 competitions will feature six nations, ensuring representation from Africa, Asia, Europe and Oceania.

Five qualification spots in each event will be awarded through existing ICC events and T20I rankings, while the final place will be decided at the new ICC Olympics qualifier in 2027. In the women's competition, Great Britain (through England), Australia, India and South Africa have qualified as the highest-placed eligible finishers from their respective regions at the ongoing ICC Women's T20 World Cup.

Teams can select 15-player squads and will compete in a round-robin format within groups of three, followed by cross-group matches. The top two teams will battle for gold and silver, with third and fourth place contesting bronze. All 28 matches across both events will be staged at the dedicated cricket venue in Pomona.

ICC chairman Jay Shah called this 'a landmark moment' that gives cricket 'a clear and exciting route to the Olympic stage,' emphasizing the opportunity to inspire players and fans globally. The format provides cricket with its strongest platform yet to reach new audiences through the Olympic spotlight.
