Jazz Chisholm Jr. captained GB in March, driving a 8‑1 win over Brazil before the MLB season started. He has openly expressed a desire to compete for Britain at the Olympics, but a handful of hurdles remain.

First, the team must qualify. Only one European nation can secure an LA berth, and GB would likely need to out‑perform Italy, who surprisingly beat the USA to reach the World Baseball Classic semi‑finals. Second, eligibility requires British citizenship, so Chisholm would need to obtain a British passport. Finally, the Olympic Games fall inside the MLB season, so MLB and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) must agree on a release. An 11‑day mid‑season break is the latest proposal that may satisfy all parties, allowing MLB to minimise disruption while the IOC can showcase the sport’s best.

IOC sports director Pierre Ducrey noted that the LA Games will feature the top talent, echoing the NHL’s return to Olympic ice hockey in Milan‑Cortina. Baseball’s inclusion in LA28 will be a significant focus for both the IOC and MLB as they aim to deliver a marquee baseball showdown at Dodgers Stadium in 2028.
