Derek McInnes is doing the best that he possibly can with what's at his disposal to try and get results, according to former Rangers midfielder Andy Halliday, who defended the new Gers manager amid his winless start at Ibrox.

The pressure has increased after the team extended their winless run to four games, crashing out of the Europa League to Polish side Jagiellonia Bialystok, while opponents made a 'Wi‑Fi password' jibe.

Halliday said the squad lacks pace, creativity and a player who can dictate tempo, noting that McInnes has not yet found a solution despite nine new signings and a cancelled £6.5m deal for Couhaib Driouech after his medical revealed an injury, and only one left‑back, three centre‑halves and two wingers have been added.

Chairman Andrew Cavenagh defended the recruitment work, but Halliday warned of a gross level of mismanagement from the top, citing 27 signings in 12 months and a shortage of left‑backs, centre‑halves and wingers, and urged the need for immediate upgrades to avoid a long season. Fans have raised concerns about the recruitment strategy, and Halliday believes the club must bring in players who can immediately improve the current squad rather than continue with mismatched additions.
