Carlos Alcaraz has pulled out of the Cincinnati Open because of an ongoing wrist injury, heightening concerns over his upcoming US Open defence that starts on August 30. Despite not competing since April, the Spaniard remains World No 2, a ranking that has kept him in the spotlight.

The wrist problem forced him to skip the French Open, denying him a chance to defend that title, and also put a stop to his bid for a third Wimbledon crown. The injury, first revealed during qauv at Barcelona, has left fans and analysts Norma worried about his form in the final Grand Slam of the year.

Alcaraz may still gain match fitness if he plays the Winston‑Salem Open, scheduled to begin on August 23, giving him a final run‑in before the US Open. He won Cincinnati last year after Jannik Sinner withdrew from the final, a victory that helped him secure a second US Open title.
