Union Berlin's Historic Female Coach Loses First Match

Marie-Louise Eta made Bundesliga history as the first female head coach, but her Union Berlin debut ended in a 2-1 home defeat to Wolfsburg. The relegation-threatened visitors scored through Patrick Wimmer and Dženan Pejčinović in each half to snap a 12-game winless streak.

Eta, who previously broke barriers as the Bundesliga's first female assistant coach in 2023, has four matches to keep Union in the top division before transitioning to coach the club's women's team. The Köpenick-based side created better chances but lacked efficiency, with Oliver Burke's 85th-minute goal coming too late.

Union, which has won just two games in 2026, fired Steffen Baumgart after last weekend's loss at Heidenheim and now sits only six points above the relegation zone. Wolfsburg remains second to last but closed to within two points of the playoff position with four rounds remaining.
