The jersey worn by Pelé during Brazil's 1958 FIFA World Cup final victory over Sweden has sold for $4.88 million at a Sotheby's auction. This sale marks the highest price ever paid for a Pelé collectible, surpassing a previous record set in 2022.

The then-17-year-old Pelé, who remains the youngest player to score in a World Cup final, scored twice in the 5-2 win. The iconic jersey was gifted to his teammate Dida and later donated to a Brazilian sports museum, which consigned it for auction.

This historic jersey is now the second-most expensive soccer jersey ever sold, trailing only Diego Maradona's "Hand of God" jersey. In the same auction, Maradona's 1986 World Cup captain's armband also sold for $512,000.
