Borussia Dortmund midfielder Julian Brandt will depart the club this summer when his contract expires. Dortmund managing director Lars Ricken confirmed the decision Saturday after Brandt assisted on the winning goal in a 2-1 victory over Cologne. The 29-year-old has spent seven seasons with Dortmund since joining from Bayer Leverkusen in 2019.

Brandt's departure marks the end of an era for Dortmund. The attacking midfielder has made 298 appearances for the club, scoring 56 goals and providing numerous assists. Ricken praised Brandt's contributions, noting his 48 caps for Germany and his impact on the team's playing style. The decision to part ways was described as mutual and respectful.

Ricken emphasized that Brandt's exit won't affect negotiations with other players. Dortmund will offer captain Emre Can a contract extension while defender Nico Schlotterbeck's future remains uncertain amid interest from Real Madrid and Liverpool. With Brandt leaving, Dortmund faces a significant midfield transition as they prepare for next season.
