Icelandic midfielder Willum Willumsson has left Birmingham City to join Dutch club NEC Nijmegen on a two-and-a-half-year contract. The 27-year-old completed his move for an undisclosed fee after helping the Blues secure promotion from League One to the Championship in his only full season with the Midlands club.

Willumsson played 60 matches across all competitions during his time at Birmingham, though his appearances dropped to just 12 this season following the club's return to the second tier. His departure marks another significant exit from the promoted side as they prepare for Championship football. The move represents Willumsson's return to Dutch football after previously playing for Go Ahead Eagles.

The transfer includes a 12-month option, giving NEC flexibility for the future. Willumsson's experience in England's third tier and immediate promotion will be valuable as NEC competes in the Eredivisie. His ability to adapt to different leagues makes him an attractive signing for the Dutch club.
