Barcelona winger Anthony Gordon has vowed to be more selfish ahead of facing Aston Villa in the Champions League on Tuesday. The England forward, who joined Barca from Newcastle in a deal worth more than £69m over the summer, has helped the Catalan side top La Liga. Gordon has scored three goals in 13 appearances this season, including one in Saturday's 6-1 win over Alaves. Despite early success, the 25-year-old believes he can contribute more to help Hansi Flick's side complete a trophy sweep.
Gordon reflected on his move, contrasting the pressure of fighting relegation at Everton with the current challenge of competing for every trophy at Barcelona. He admitted he sometimes passes too much and needs to score more, stating goals win games. He previously played Villa with Everton and Newcastle, recalling them as a physical team with great players who are always ready for a challenge, promising a tough game on Tuesday.
The forward emphasized consistency and motivation, noting that the fact Villa are English does not make the clash more motivating. Barcelona will look to maintain their strong form as they prepare for the difficult test against a side always ready to strike.
