CAF general secretary Veron Mosengo-Omba has resigned amid ongoing turmoil following the Africa Cup of Nations final controversy. The Democratic Republic of Congo official stepped down without directly referencing the decision to strip Senegal of their title and award it to Morocco after Senegal's team protested a late penalty call. Mosengo-Omba stated he was leaving to pursue personal projects and could now retire without the suspicions cast upon him.

CAF president Dr Patrice Motsepe announced the resignation at a news conference, claiming Mosengo-Omba had been asked by DRC president Felix Tshisekedi to help with football development in his home country. Motsepe praised Mosengo-Omba's contributions to African football growth over his tenure. Nigerian official Samson Adamu has taken over as interim general secretary, with Motsepe expressing confidence in his ability to lead the organization forward.
