Raoni Barcelos has been kept in hospital overnight after losing consciousness in the final round of his UFC Vegas 121 defeat by Raul Rosas Jr. The 39-year-old went down under a Rosas takedown 1:38 into the fifth round and did not get up. Medical staff attended to him inside the cage at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas before he left on a stretcher. Rosas immediately signalled to the referee to wave off the fight.

The UFC said in a statement: "Following his fight tonight, Raoni Barcelos was immediately transported to a Level 1 trauma center for evaluation. The hospital medical team conducted a CT scan and comprehensive assessment, and he is currently being monitored. Barcelos is stable, alert and responsive, with full movement.

He will remain under medical supervision." Barcelos has been on the UFC roster since 2018 and arrived on a five-fight winning run, headlining for the first time. The Brazilian had been in front on every card with one round left but Rosas Jr took the victory following his collapse from what looked to be a fairly innocuous takedown. The 21-year-old has now won six successive fights, after an encounter where both men threw more than 300 strikes apiece before the ending, as the bout took the Fight of the Night bonus.

Rosas Jr muted his celebrations when he realised Barcelos' condition, and said after the fight: "I want everybody tonight to please pray for Raoni Barcelos. He's a warrior.".
