Morocco Wins AFCON Title After Senegal's Final Win Overturned

Morocco was awarded the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title after CAF overturned Senegal's 1-0 extra-time victory following a chaotic final protest.

In Rabat, Senegal players and coach Pape Thiaw walked off the pitch during stoppage time after Morocco was controversially awarded a penalty that was saved by goalkeeper Édouard Mendy. Senegal later scored the winning goal, but the result was annulled due to Senegal's refusal to continue play without authorization, per tournament rules.

CAF's appeal board ruled Senegal forfeited the match under article 82, awarding Morocco a 3-0 default win. Brahim Diaz's missed Panenka penalty and the disallowed Senegal goal for a foul on Achraf Hakimi fueled ongoing controversy. The case may now proceed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne.

This decision strips Senegal of their first AFCON title and crowns Morocco as champions, though the outcome remains fiercely contested by Senegalese fans and officials.
