Sidney Crosby made his long-awaited return to the Pittsburgh Penguins lineup, scoring a goal and adding an assist in a 6-5 overtime loss to the Carolina Hurricanes. The 38-year-old captain had been sidelined for 11 games due to a lower-body injury sustained during the Milan Cortina Olympics. Crosby's 28th goal of the season tied the game at 1-1 in the second period.

Despite the defeat, Crosby's presence provided a significant boost to the Penguins' offense. He assisted on Erik Karlsson's third-period goal that sent the game to overtime, pushing his point total to 61 in 57 games. The Hurricanes ultimately prevailed when Sean Walker scored with just 28.3 seconds remaining in the extra period. Pittsburgh coach Dan Muse praised Crosby's quick adaptation, noting his line found a good rhythm early.

The Penguins went 5-3-3 without Crosby and remain in second place in the Metropolitan Division, eyeing their first playoff berth since 2022. Crosby acknowledged some rust but emphasized the importance of adapting quickly during this crucial stretch of the season. The Penguins completed a 2-1-2 road trip and will host Winnipeg on Saturday for Crosby's first home game since February 2.
