The New York Rangers bolstered their offense by signing free agent winger Oliver Bjorkstrand to a one-year contract. The deal carries a $4.5 million cap hit, a slight decrease from his previous five-year contract. Bjorkstrand, a veteran of 11 NHL seasons, joins the Rangers as they aim to rebound from missing the playoffs for two consecutive seasons.

Bjorkstrand's production dipped last season with the Tampa Bay Lightning, where he recorded 12 goals and 20 assists in 80 games. This followed four consecutive seasons with at least 20 goals. His ice time also decreased to under 14 minutes per game. The Rangers, who ranked 23rd in goals per game last year, hope Bjorkstrand can recapture his previous scoring form.

This signing follows another significant offensive acquisition for the Rangers: forward Pavel Dorofeyev. The team secured Dorofeyev on a seven-year deal with an $11 million cap hit. These moves signal a clear intent to address the team's scoring woes and improve their standing in the Metropolitan Division.
