NHL Rescinds MacKinnon Penalty After Oilers Collision

The NHL rescinded Nathan MacKinnon's game misconduct penalty from Tuesday's matchup against the Edmonton Oilers, the Colorado Avalanche star revealed to The Denver Post. The incident occurred late in the second period when MacKinnon was driving hard to the net on a power play. As he tipped a pass from Brock Nelson wide, Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse dove into MacKinnon, causing him to collide with goaltender Connor Ingram.

Ingram suffered a cut on his forehead from the collision and left the game but did not return. Officials initially assessed MacKinnon a major penalty for interference on the goaltender, which stood after video review. The Avalanche contested the call, arguing MacKinnon couldn't avoid the collision due to Nurse's hit.

The league's decision to rescind the penalty came after Avalanche general manager Chris MacFarland reportedly requested a review. "Mistakes happen," MacKinnon told the Post. The Avs, who lost 4-3 at home, were back in action Thursday night against Seattle.
