Colorado Avalanche star Nathan MacKinnon became the first NHL player to reach 50 goals this season, scoring against Vancouver Canucks goaltender Kevin Lankinen early in the first period. The milestone came during a 8-6 loss to Vancouver, where Colorado mounted a late rally but fell short after trailing by four goals.

This marks MacKinnon's second 50-goal campaign in his career, joining elite company in Colorado/Quebec franchise history. He became just the third player to notch multiple 50-goal seasons, joining Hall of Famers Joe Sakic and Michel Goulet. MacKinnon also joins Milan Hejduk as the only Avalanche skaters to hit the 50-goal mark first during an NHL season.

At 30 years old, MacKinnon has now posted four consecutive seasons with 110 or more points, tying Nikita Kucherov for second in league scoring with 121 points. He trails Connor McDavid of Edmonton by four points for the scoring lead. Despite the milestone, Avalanche coach Jared Bednar expressed frustration with his team's inconsistent performance, particularly after falling behind 6-2 before mounting a late surge that ultimately proved insufficient.
