The Tampa Bay Lightning have acquired forward Ilya Mikheyev from the Chicago Blackhawks on a four-year contract worth $3.85 million annually against the salary cap. Mikheyev entered unrestricted free agency for the first time this summer after spending two seasons with Chicago. The Blackhawks attempted to retain him before the trade deadline with a two-to-three year offer, but the Russian winger rejected their proposal.

Mikheyev brings proven goal-scoring ability to Tampa Bay's lineup. The 31-year-old has reached the 20-goal mark in two separate seasons and posted 18 goals with 36 points last year while averaging 17:25 of ice time on Chicago's third line alongside Ryan Donato and Anton Frondell. He's two goals away from reaching 100 for his NHL career and previously set a career-high with 21 goals during the 2021-22 season with Toronto.

The signing addresses the Lightning's forward depth after a challenging playoff run. Mikheyev's two-way play and puck-battle winning ability complement Tampa Bay's system. General manager Julien BriseBois continues building for next season. The team also added Jeffrey Viel on a five-year deal from San Jose.

This acquisition gives Tampa Bay a reliable middle-six forward who can contribute offensively while maintaining defensive responsibility. Mikheyev's experience and consistent production should immediately impact the Lightning's lineup depth.
