Los Angeles Kings re‑signed defenseman Brandt Clarke to a five-year deal worth $7.4 million annually on Friday. The eighth overall pick in the 2021 draft has become a key player in 2025‑26, showing leadership on the blue line.

Clarke recorded 32 assists to rank second among Kings defenders and totaled 40 points, fourth overall on the squad. He logged 19:48 average minutes per game, only behind Drew Doughty and Mikey Anderson. In the playoffs he added one point in four games while averaging 19:45 on the ice. Los Angeles fell in the first round for the fifth consecutive year. Clarke's new contract gives the Kings six players with deals longer than three years.

The extension adds stability to a defensive corps that still carries Drew Doughty, who enters 2026‑27 with one season left before free agency. Puck Pedia estimates about $10.9 million in cap space ahead of the first free‑agency window without longtime captain Anze Kopitar, who retired after 2025‑26. Los Angeles now must decide how to shape its roster around the new contract.
