Defenseman John Marino has signed an eight-year, $54 million extension with the Utah Mammoth, keeping him with the team through the 2034 season. The deal, announced Tuesday, carries an average annual value of $6.75 million.

Mammoth general manager Bill Armstrong described Marino, 29, as a "foundational piece" for the team's future, highlighting his control of the game, transition play, and decision-making under pressure. Marino was entering the final year of his previous contract, which he initially signed with the Pittsburgh Penguins before being traded to the New Jersey Devils and then to Utah in 2024.

In the 2025-26 season, Marino contributed four goals and 36 points in 80 games, helping the Mammoth reach the playoffs for the first time since relocating from Arizona. He averaged over 20 minutes of ice time per game. The signing is part of a busy offseason for the Mammoth, which has also included acquiring Vincent Trocheck and Anders Lee, and trading for goaltender Sebastian Cossa.
