The Utah Mammoth have secured forward Nick Schmaltz with an eight-year, $64 million contract extension, keeping him off the free-agent market this summer. The deal carries an annual cap hit of $8 million through the 2033-34 season.

Schmaltz, 30, is currently second on the team in scoring with 59 points in 64 games. His 16-point start in 10 games helped establish Utah as a playoff contender in just their second season since relocating from Arizona. General Manager Bill Armstrong praised Schmaltz as a "tremendous player and person" who will continue leading the team's young forwards.

This extension follows the Mammoth's recent eight-year, $80 million deal with Logan Cooley last fall. The franchise, formerly the Arizona Coyotes, has not reached the playoffs since 2020 and last qualified for the traditional 16-team tournament in 2012. Utah currently holds the first wild card spot in the Western Conference, six points ahead of Seattle.
