Instead, it targets a 25% boost in throughput at various signal-to-interference-and-noise ratios, 25% lower 95th-percentile latency, and 25% less MAC protocol data unit loss.

Expected to finalize in 2028, Wi-Fi 8 aims to compete with 6G cellular networks by excelling in dense device environments. Key innovations include Distributed-tone Resource Units (DRUs), letting devices spread transmissions across wider bandwidth for higher transmit power without regulatory violations — benefiting low-power smart home devices. Interference mitigation pilots further enhance resilience in unlicensed bands.
