The Vegas Golden Knights acquired veteran center Nic Dowd from the Washington Capitals in a trade on Thursday. The 35-year-old Dowd, who has posted four goals and 12 assists in 55 games this season, brings stability to Vegas' bottom-six forward group and will anchor their fourth line.

In exchange, the Capitals received prospect goaltender Jesper Vikman, a 2027 third-round pick, and a 2029 second-round pick. Capitals coach Spencer Carbery described the trade as a "difficult day" for the organization, praising Dowd's seven-year impact on the team and community. The move reflects Washington's continued rebuilding efforts.

The trade addresses a critical need for the Golden Knights, who have four forwards set to become unrestricted free agents. Vegas, currently leading the Pacific Division by one point, has been dealing with significant injury issues, including captain Mark Stone's placement on injured reserve. The team projects to have $1.503 million in cap space ahead of the trade deadline.
