Fluke Goal Lifts Sabres to Game 4 Win, Ties Series

The Buffalo Sabres evened their playoff series with Montreal at 2-2 after a bizarre game-winning goal. Tage Thompson's shot from center ice deflected off the glass near the Zamboni entrance, ricocheted off goalie Jakub Dobes' pad and into the net during a second-period power play. The fluke goal tied the game at 2-2, and Zach Benson scored the winner in the third period to give Buffalo a 3-2 victory at Bell Centre.

The Canadiens had seized momentum after the NHL overturned Jack Quinn's apparent goal due to goaltender interference on Konsta Helenius at 8:02 of the first period. Buffalo coach Lindy Ruff disagreed with the call, arguing Dobes initiated contact with his stick. Montreal capitalized with goals from Alex Newhook and Cole Caufield, who scored with 13 seconds left in the period for a 2-1 lead.

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen returned as the starter and made 28 saves to earn the win, his first start since April 21. Benson, celebrating his 21st birthday, scored the game-winner off a pass from Josh Doan. The series shifts to Buffalo for Game 5 on Thursday.
