Sidney Crosby will represent Canada at the men's world hockey championships in Switzerland, his fourth career appearance at the international tournament. The 38-year-old Pittsburgh Penguins captain became available after his team's elimination by Philadelphia Flyers in Game 6 of the NHL playoffs. Hockey Canada announced his addition alongside Mathew Barzal's withdrawal due to injury.

Crosby most recently captained Canada's silver medal-winning team at the Milan Cortina Games, though he couldn't finish due to injury. A member of the IIHF's "Triple Gold" club, he's a two-time Olympic gold medalist who scored the famous overtime goal in Canada's 2010 victory. The three-time Stanley Cup champion also helped Canada win gold at the 2015 world championships.

Porter Martone and Dawson Mercer joined the roster alongside Crosby as Canada prepares for the 17-day, 16-nation tournament. Celebrini's status as captain remains uncertain with Crosby's addition. Canada opens play against Sweden on Friday, adding one of hockey's greatest players to their lineup for a deep tournament run.
