Dillon Dube Signs With St. Louis Blues Post-Acquittal

Dillon Dube signed a one-way free agent contract with the St. Louis Blues, a $850,000 deal for the upcoming season. He becomes the second player acquitted in the 2018 Hockey Canada World Junior sexual assault case to secure an NHL contract since the trial concluded. Dube's signing follows a season spent with the AHL's Springfield Thunderbirds.

His return to the league mirrors that of goaltender Carter Hart, who inked a deal with Vegas and backstopped them to the Stanley Cup Final. Both Dube and Hart, along with Michael McLeod, Cal Foote, and Alex Formenton, had their NHL suspensions lifted in September, allowing them to play again starting December 1st.

The acquittal came from an Ontario judge who found the players not guilty of sexual assault. McLeod also faced and was acquitted of a separate charge. McLeod has since signed with a Russian KHL team, while Foote joined the Chicago Wolves on an AHL deal and Formenton played in Switzerland, indicating varied paths back into professional hockey.

The Blues' decision to sign Dube brings a winger who turns 28 next week back into the NHL fold. This marks a significant step for him and others involved, as they re-establish their careers following the legal proceedings.
