The Pittsburgh Steelers and defensive captain Cameron Heyward agreed to a one-year extension, keeping the 37-year-old under contract through 2027. Heyward's agent Michael Perrett confirmed the deal, which increases the total value of his two-year contract to $32.25 million with $16.25 million fully guaranteed. The move also frees up $5.5 million in cap space for this season.

Heyward continues his remarkable late-career excellence after first-team All-Pro honors in 2024 with eight sacks and 11 passes defensed. He followed with a second-team All Pro selection in 2025 despite his age. The first-round pick from 2011 has remained durable, playing 71% of defensive snaps in each of the past two seasons and appearing in complete 17-game seasons four of the last five years.

The extension solidifies Heyward's legacy as a Steeler great with 92 career sacks across 15 seasons. His consistent production includes back-to-back 10-sack seasons in 2021-2022 and two interceptions. For the Steelers, retaining their defensive leader provides stability while managing salary cap constraints, showing the team's commitment to maintaining defensive prowess.
