Detroit Lions team president Rod Wood will retire ahead of the 2026 season, the team announced Wednesday. Wood, who has led the organization for 11 years, will remain with the Lions throughout the search for his successor, which will be conducted by executive search firm Russell Reynolds Associates.

Wood, a native of Goodrich, Michigan, was appointed team president in November 2015 and has overseen both football and business operations. He has been instrumental in elevating Detroit's national profile, including hosting the 2024 NFL draft and upgrading the team's practice facility in Allen Park. Lions owner Sheila Ford Hamp praised Wood as a "trusted advisor and passionate leader" who has prepared the organization for a promising future.

During his tenure, Wood helped transform the franchise's trajectory, working alongside general manager Brad Holmes and head coach Dan Campbell. The Lions have emerged as a competitive force in the NFL, reaching the NFC Championship game in consecutive seasons. Wood expressed pride in leaving the organization "in the capable hands" of the current leadership team. The search for his replacement will begin immediately, with Wood remaining involved in the transition process.
