Rashee Rice Cleared by NFL in Abuse Probe, But Legal Battle Looms

The NFL has concluded its investigation into allegations of domestic violence against Kansas City Chiefs receiver Rashee Rice, finding no evidence to support the claims made by his former girlfriend, Dacoda Jones. The league stated Rice 'has not engaged in conduct that violates the personal conduct policy,' closing the case without imposing any discipline. Rice's attorney, Sean Lindsey, confirmed the player is 'looking forward to the start of the 2026-27 NFL season.' This decision follows Jones filing a $1 million lawsuit in February, alleging Rice abused her over an 18-month period ending in 2025, including incidents where she was pregnant. Jones also posted Instagram photos showing injuries, claiming Rice was the father of her children.

Rice faces significant legal and professional hurdles beyond the NFL probe. He was previously suspended six games last season for violating the personal conduct policy related to a separate 2024 DUI crash in Dallas where he fled the scene. That case resulted in a 30-day jail sentence and five years' probation. A Texas court recently issued a default judgment of $2.8 million against teammate Theodore Knox for the same incident. Rice's own trial for the crash is scheduled for June 9, 2026. While the NFL cleared him of the abuse allegations, the unresolved civil lawsuit and pending criminal case create substantial uncertainty for Rice's career and the Chiefs' plans for the upcoming season.
