NFL cancels supplemental draft, Sorsby's 2026 hopes end

The NFL announced it will not hold a supplemental draft in 2026, effectively halting quarterback Brendan Sorsby’s bid to join the league this season. Sorsby, who admitted to placing thousands of bets totaling $90,000 on college and professional games, faced a permanent NCAA ineligibility ruling. Without a draft, his NFL path is blocked until at least 2027, for now.

League officials cited the collective bargaining agreement, saying a supplemental draft would distract teams entering training camp. A letter from NFL Management Council general counsel Larry Ferazani rejected Sorsby’s petition, noting the filing lacked supporting documentation and failed to address his gambling violations. His attorney Jeffrey Kessler called the decision a breach of the CBA and promised immediate action with the NFLPA, in this case.

Sorsby, the former No. 1 transfer‑portal prospect, withdrew a federal suit against the Big 12 and declared for the supplemental draft after his college eligibility was revoked. With no NFL outlet, he may explore the CFL, but his professional future remains uncertain, in the short term. The league emphasized that NFL participation is a privilege contingent on strict integrity standards.
