San Francisco 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan was not at fault for the July 14 accident that resulted in multiple injuries, according to California Highway Patrol records. The investigation found a 21-year-old woman, driving a blue 2025 Mercedes SUV, made an unsafe turn while traveling in the opposite direction of Shanahan on a Palo Alto street.

While Shanahan was using his cellphone at the time, the crash report determined he was not to blame. Neither driver received a citation, and neither had been drinking. Shanahan was driving a black 2023 Tesla sedan south on Alma Street when the collision occurred at the intersection of Alma Street and Hamilton Avenue around 6:12 p.m. PT.

Shanahan reportedly suffered a concussion, a broken left hand, three broken ribs, and a broken nose, requiring 40 stitches. The 49ers announced the incident, stating he would be limited in early training camp. General manager John Lynch confirmed Shanahan's return to full duties post-concussion recovery. Shanahan has attended the first two practices, wearing sunglasses and a cast, and observing team drills.
