Jacoby Brissett Holdout Continues as Cardinals Open OTAs Under LaFleur

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Jacoby Brissett remained absent from organized team activities Monday, continuing his contract holdout as the team opened its first voluntary sessions under new head coach Mike LaFleur. The 33-year-old veteran is seeking a restructured deal for the 2026 season, marking a critical offseason development for the franchise.

Brissett is scheduled to earn $4.88 million in 2026, with only $1.5 million guaranteed, significantly less than backup Gardner Minshew II's $5.14 million guaranteed salary. LaFleur indicated discussions haven't progressed since a few weeks ago, though he maintains contact with his presumed starter. The coach emphasized that Brissett's experience will help him adapt quickly once he returns, noting the scheme is familiar despite different terminology.

Brissett started 12 games last season after Kyler Murray's injury, finishing as the NFL's top-ranked quarterback from Week 6 onward in multiple statistical categories. Wide receiver Michael Wilson expressed support for Brissett's position while acknowledging the team must continue preparations. Arizona faces a mandatory minicamp June 8-10, where Brissett's participation remains uncertain.

The Cardinals have informed Brissett he enters 2026 as their starting quarterback, a designation that shifted from March when his role wasn't clearly defined. His absence from all voluntary sessions suggests this contract dispute could extend into mandatory activities.
