First-year coach Mike LaFleur described talks with Brissett's representatives as "productive" but "still ongoing." Brissett is scheduled to earn a base salary of $4.88 million with $1.5 million guaranteed, plus incentives reaching $5.39 million. LaFleur emphasized Brissett's presence: "He's here. He's under contract and it's the first day of practice."

When asked about a quarterback competition, LaFleur downplayed the narrative, calling it "Practice 1 on July 23." The focus remains on installing the offense — cadence, formations, no-huddle packages, pass and run schemes — rather than evaluating past performance. "We don't need a peak on July 23," LaFleur said. "We need to get better on July 23."
