The Denver Broncos have agreed to a three-year, $18 million contract with linebacker Justin Strnad, including $10 million guaranteed, according to sources. The 2020 fifth-round pick has emerged as a key defensive piece after years of waiting for his opportunity. Strnad's deal comes as the Broncos look to maintain continuity on a defense that has ranked among the NFL's best in recent seasons.

Strnad's journey to this contract has been anything but straightforward. After missing his entire rookie season with a wrist injury and sitting out defensive snaps in 2022 and 2023, he finally got his chance in 2024 when Alex Singleton tore his ACL. He started eight games that season and repeated the feat this past year when Dre Greenlaw dealt with multiple thigh injuries. His versatility and reliability have made him invaluable to Denver's defensive schemes.

The timing of this extension is significant for both player and team. Over the past two seasons, Strnad has logged at least 500 snaps on defense while the Broncos have finished as one of the league's top units, ranking No. 3 in scoring defense and setting franchise records for sacks. This past season alone, he recorded 58 tackles, 4.5 sacks, and an interception while also contributing as one of Denver's best special teams players.
