Broncos Stick With Core in Free Agency

The Denver Broncos are embracing a "run-it-back" approach during free agency, signing 17 of their 21 impending free agents while avoiding outside acquisitions. This strategy contrasts with the 2023 offseason when the team brought in 13 outside free agents, showing a clear shift toward maintaining their 14-3 AFC Championship roster.

The Broncos have committed $320.5 million guaranteed to contract extensions for nearly two dozen players since July 2024, locking up core talent like cornerback Pat Surtain II and edge rusher Nik Bonitto. This financial commitment demonstrates the team's belief in their current roster, with general manager George Paton emphasizing the importance of retaining "All-Pros and Pro Bowlers."

Despite maintaining defensive strength, the Broncos face offensive questions after scoring just one touchdown in their AFC Championship loss. With quarterback Bo Nix eligible for an extension after 2026 and their tight end group producing only three touchdowns last season, Denver will need improved offensive production to validate their free agency approach.
