Wizards Reject Trade Interest in Anthony Davis Ahead of Contract Extension

The Washington Wizards are not entertaining trade offers for Anthony Davis, according to sources who spoke with ESPN's Marc J. Spears. Despite speculation linking the Warriors to pursue both Davis and LeBron James, Washington remains committed to building around their All-Star forward. Davis can sign a contract extension worth up to $275 million over four years starting August 6, with the first year replacing his $62.8 million player option.

Golden State's potential pursuit stems from Draymond Green declining his $27.6 million player option, creating salary flexibility. The Warriors view acquiring Davis as a way to motivate James toward San Francisco, reuniting the 2020 Lakers championship teammates. Both players share representation through Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul, maintaining their close personal relationship since their title run together.

Washington acquired Davis and Trae Young last season specifically for their rebuild. Young already signed a $212 million extension, locking in the backcourt duo. Wizards general manager Will Dawkins praised both veterans as highly motivated players with chips on their shoulders, believing they'll mentor the young core including 2026 No. 1 pick AJ Dybantsa.

The Warriors have privately communicated to Jimmy Butler that they prefer keeping him rather than using him in Davis negotiations. However, salary matching would likely require Butler's $56.8 million expiring contract, making any potential deal complex despite mutual interest.
