Mark Cuban Accuses Mavericks Owner of Business Freeze Out

Mark Cuban alleges that Mavericks governor Patrick Dumont used adversarial business practices to exclude him from a proposed move to a new arena site. The team signed an option agreement for 104 acres in north Dallas, aiming for a 2031 opening as their lease at the American Airlines Center expires.

Internal friction escalated after Dumont gave Nico Harrison full control of basketball operations, overriding Cuban's agreement to run the side. This shift led to a failed attempt to trade Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in February 2025. Cuban claims he was unaware of the trade plan until it was too late to stop the transaction.

Harrison faced the consequences of the botched move and a slow start to the 2025-26 season, resulting in his firing in November. Cuban currently holds a 27% stake in the franchise, though a purchase agreement allows the Adelson and Dumont families to buy an additional 20% of his shares. This legal battle threatens the stability of the front office as the team navigates a relocation that could shift the franchise's identity away from downtown Dallas.
