The Los Angeles Lakers have appointed Lon Rosen as their new president of business operations, marking a significant shift in the organization's leadership following its $10 billion sale to Mark Walter last year. Rosen, who has served as the Dodgers' executive vice president and chief marketing officer since 2012, will replace Tim Harris, who is stepping down after 35 years with the franchise.

Rosen's appointment represents a strategic move by Walter to bring his successful Dodgers management approach to the Lakers organization. The Dodgers have won three of the last six World Series under Walter's ownership, building star-studded rosters both on and off the field. Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka recently indicated the team plans to emulate aspects of the Dodgers' successful front-office structure, addressing long-standing perceptions of the Lakers running one of the NBA's thinner front offices.

Interestingly, Rosen began his sports career with the 1980s Showtime Lakers as an intern and front office executive before becoming an agent and business partner of Magic Johnson. His return to the Lakers after decades away signals Walter's commitment to building organizational depth and talent across all levels. Jeanie Buss will remain the Lakers' governor under Walter's ownership, ensuring continuity in the team's basketball operations while business operations undergo this transformation.
