The Los Angeles Lakers are hiring longtime Miami Heat executive Eric Amsler as an assistant general manager, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania on Wednesday. Amsler previously served as Miami's vice president of player personnel and general manager for the Heat's G League affiliate, the Sioux Falls Skyforce.

Lakers president and general manager Rob Pelinka has been building out the front office this offseason, hiring two assistant GMs. Rohan Ramadas, formerly with the New Orleans Pelicans, joined in May to lead salary cap, analytics, and strategy. The second assistant GM role, now filled by Amsler, focuses on player draft and evaluation processes, including pro scouting, draft scouting, and player development.

Amsler spent two decades with the Heat, starting as an intern in 2004-05 and rising through basketball operations, handling various scouting, personnel, and G League duties. His addition marks the first significant change to the Lakers' front office since Mark Walter, the franchise's majority owner, agreed to sell the team to Josh Kushner and Bob Iger at a $12.5 billion valuation in August.
