The Sacramento Kings will be without their two highest-paid players for the remainder of the season after both Domantas Sabonis and Zach LaVine underwent season-ending surgeries on Wednesday. Sabonis had surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee, while LaVine will have surgery on a tendon injury in his right hand, league sources told ESPN's Shams Charania.

Sabonis suffered the knee injury in mid-November, missed 27 games attempting to rehab, and returned for eight games before the All-Star break. The Kings have been dismal this season with a league-worst 12-44 record and 14 consecutive losses. LaVine averaged 19.2 points in 39 games before the break but missed five of the previous 10 games.

Both players are to next season. LaVine has a $48.9 million player option for next season and is expected to opt in, while Sabonis has two years and $94 million remaining on his contract. The Kings explored trade options for both players before the deadline but couldn't strike a deal. New general manager Scott Perry is expected to revisit those discussions over the summer.
