Sacramento Kings guard Zach LaVine will remain with the team for the 2026-27 season after exercising his $49 million player option. Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul confirmed the decision to ESPN on Monday, ending speculation about LaVine's potential departure in free agency.

LaVine's 2025-26 campaign concluded prematurely when he underwent surgery on a right hand tendon injury before the All-Star break. At that juncture, the Kings sat at 12-44, matching the Utah Jazz for the Western Conference's worst record. They ultimately finished 22-60, the NBA's lowest mark.

Before the trade deadline, Sacramento explored moving LaVine and Domantas Sabonis, who also had season-ending surgery. No deal materialized despite the team's rebuilding trajectory. LaVine averaged 19.2 points across 39 games before his injury, showing his scoring ability remained intact.

The former Bulls All-Star (2021, 2022) arrived in Sacramento via trade in February 2025. Over his 13-year career, he's maintained steady production at 20.7 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game. This decision gives the Kings a proven scorer while they determine their long-term direction.
