Kings' Hunter Out Season with Eye Surgery

Sacramento Kings forward De'Andre Hunter underwent season-ending left eye surgery Friday, becoming the third Kings player to suffer a season-ending injury in recent days. The 28-year-old was diagnosed with a retinal detachment after being injured February 6 against the LA Clippers.

Hunter's surgery was performed by Dr. M. Ali Khan at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Roseville, California. Acquired earlier this month in a three-team trade involving the Cleveland Cavaliers and Chicago Bulls, Hunter appeared in just two games for Sacramento before going on the inactive list with left eye iritis. He averaged 7.5 points on 21.1% shooting and 1.5 rebounds.

The Kings now have three players undergoing season-ending surgery: Hunter, Domantas Sabonis (left knee meniscus repair), and Zach LaVine (right fifth finger tendon repair). Sacramento's injury woes come as NBA Commissioner Adam Silver expressed concern over league-wide tanking, calling the issue "worse this year than we've seen in recent memory." With a 12-45 record, the Kings have the NBA's worst record and a 14% chance at the No. 1 draft pick in a class considered deep with prospects.
