Detroit Pistons star Cade Cunningham has purchased a minority ownership stake in his hometown Texas Rangers, marking a rare move for an active NBA player to invest in another major league franchise. The 24-year-old All-Star joins Sportsology Capital Partners in the investment group that recently acquired the stake in the MLB team.

Cunningham, a native of Arlington, Texas, has deep connections to the Rangers organization. He previously threw out a ceremonial first pitch at Globe Life Field last July, describing it as "an amazing experience" to support the teams he grew up watching. The investment represents a full-circle moment for the 2021 NBA No. 1 overall pick.

On the court, Cunningham is enjoying an All-Star season, averaging 25.3 points, 9.6 assists and 5.6 rebounds. He'll play in Sunday's NBA All-Star Game for the USA Stars, his second career selection. The point guard signed a five-year max rookie extension in 2024 potentially worth $269 million and secured a new six-year Nike endorsement deal with a signature shoe in November.
