Blazers Layoffs Under Dundon

The Portland Trail Blazers have laid off a significant number of business-side employees as part of a reorganization under new owner Tom Dundon. President Dwayne Hankins called it "a difficult decision" to position the organization for future success, acknowledging the impact on "talented people who have helped shape the Trail Blazers over many years."

Dundon has faced criticism for cost-cutting measures since purchasing the team, including asking staff to check out of hotels early and not bringing two-way players on playoff road trips. He defended his approach on the "Game Over" podcast, claiming the Blazers spend $100 million more per year than his NHL's Carolina Hurricanes, which he noted have the league's first or second-best record since he bought them.

The layoffs affecting more than 70 employees come as Dundon emphasizes his philosophy of not "wasting money" while investing in players to help win. These workforce adjustments follow a pattern seen across professional sports after ownership changes, though the scale of cuts in Portland has raised questions about the direction of the franchise's business operations.
