Blazers Coach Splitter Amid Dundon Reports

Portland Trail Blazers interim head coach Tiago Splitter said he's focused on basketball despite reports that new owner Tom Dundon is seeking a replacement. Splitter, who took over after Chauncey Billups was arrested in a federal investigation, led the team to a 42-40 record and their first playoff appearance in five years. The Blazers evened their first-round series with a 106-103 win over the San Antonio Spurs in Game 2.

Splitter was given a raise from his assistant coaching salary but sources say the offer to continue as head coach was far below a standard NBA salary. The Oregonian reported Dundon wants to pay around $1 million annually for a head coach, reflecting his cost-cutting approach from his time with the Carolina Hurricanes. Recent measures include not traveling two-way players to the playoffs and reducing complimentary tickets for support staff.

The NBA reporter Jake Fischer reported Dundon has spoken to 15-20 candidates, including college and NBA assistant coaches. Splitter told his players to avoid social media distractions during the playoffs. Despite the uncertainty, the Blazers authored an upset in Game 2, showing the team has remained focused under Splitter's leadership.
