The New York Yankees have invited veteran outfielder Randal Grichuk to major league spring training after he agreed to a minor league contract. The 34-year-old Grichuk hit .228 with nine home runs and 27 RBIs last season split between the Arizona Diamondbacks and Kansas City Royals. His power numbers declined significantly, marking the first time since his 2014 debut that he hit fewer than 12 home runs.

Grichuk's addition could provide the Yankees with another right-handed bat to complement Aaron Judge and switch-hitter Jasson Domínguez in the outfield. His last productive season came in 2022 with Colorado, when he batted .259 with 19 home runs and 73 RBIs in 141 games. That year represented his only season playing more than 120 games since 2019.

The Yankees are clearly taking a low-risk approach by bringing in Grichuk on a minor league deal, hoping he can rediscover his power stroke and provide depth in the outfield. At 34, Grichuk faces an uphill battle to make the major league roster, but his right-handed power could make him an intriguing spring training story.
